Sandhill Crane Taking Off at Sunset
Nikon D1h, 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S, Matrix Metering, 1/45sec, f/2.8, ISO 400, SB-28Dx, -1.7ev Fill, Better Beamer, Handheld, RAW Format
The Better Beamer Flash Extender is normally used on medium to long telephoto lenses. The idea is it increases the potential distance a flash can reach by placing a Fresnal lens in front of the business end of the flash. In most cases, it increases the flash's power output by two stops or doubles the flashes normal range. In this case I'm using a 80-200mm f/2.8 lens that has a considerably larger FOV than what the Better Beamer can illuminate. Everything worked out for this image because the Nikon D1h FOV is 2/3's of a normal film camera like the Nikon F5 which coincidentally fits the Better Beamer.
